Poland, the Devil and Amelia Johnstone

March 8, 2011

At our Monday Muse (a weekly lecture that can be on almost any art related subject and often given by guest lecturers) this week Amelia Johnstone spoke about her journey through Poland in search of the Devil. A trip paid for, as I understood it, by the RCA while she was doing her MA there. Apparently because her proposal was probably the most unusual. She showed us pictures she’d produced because of the trip and read extracts from her diary. There were also images from the book “Faust” which she illustrated. It was quite a whirlwind of a lecture but, as ever, when Amelia talks about herself, her experiences and her work, very insightful. Because of this I didn’t write many notes but I did produce a quick sketch entitled Amelia’s muse, which upon refection, was quite apt.
