Army Arts Society Exhibition 2013

November 12, 2013

On Friday evening I attended the Private Viewing of the Army Arts Society annual exhibition in the Young Gallery, Salisbury Library Galleries, Market Square, Salisbury. The exhibition is a chance for members of the society to show work they’ve produced within the last few years. As a new member I entered a number of works connected to the war art I produced during, and since, my time with the Queen’s Dragoon Guards in Helmand, Afghanistan. It was incredibly well attended and quite a few paintings were sold on the night, including one of mine, which is great considering this is the first time I’ve put any originals from this work up for sale. I also won the Linda Kitson prize and another of my paintings was Highly Commended which meant a lot to me as the judging was done by Ken Howard OBE RA (a sketch I drew is below) who has, in the past worked with the armed forces producing sketches and paintings. (see also Ken’s own website)

The prizes were awarded to this painting – Linda Kitson Prize

and this one was Highly Commended

Anyway, the exhibition runs until 30th November 2013 and with such a varied selection of work is well worth a visit, if you’re in the area.
