Literary Portraits – Alun Lewis

November 26, 2013

I’ve been working on a series of literary portraits. Here’s one of Alun Lewis – a poet and teacher who is one of the better known poets of the Second World War. He sadly dies in Burma during the war, a suspected suicide but officially an accident.

So we must say Goodbye, my darling,
And go, as lovers go, for ever;
Tonight remains, to pack and fix on labels
And make an end of lying down together.

Alun Lewis

    I work for RCT Libraries and was wondering if it was possible to use this image in a display we are making in Aberdare Library next week? We are creating a time line of Alun Lewis and unveiling a bust of his face. There’s no commercial gain in it for us – it’s just for the sake of the display. I’d also reference your site in the credit for you.
    I couldn’t find an e-mail to contact you so I hope you don’t mind me getting in touch this way. If you need to get in contact you can do so at daryl.leach [at]
