NATO Summit 2014 – Newport and Cardiff, Wales, UK

September 3, 2014

The NATO Summit for 2014 is being held at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales over the next few days. A lot of functions are also taking place in Cardiff which, like parts of Newport has become a high-security area with 9 foot steel fences around various buildings, such as Cardiff Castle, The Royal College of Music and Drama as well as an 8 mile cordon around The Celtic Manor Resort itself.

I spent some time in Cardiff centre and Cardiff Bay today looking around and drawing. Here’s the first of those drawings that I’ve scanned – the billion pound HMS Duncan which is currently berthed in the Roath Basin in Cardiff Bay along with four other war ships from countries such as France, Lithuania and Holland. I am planning on spending more time drawing over the next couple of days and will post some of the pictures when I can.

This will be really interesting, I look forward to seeing the drawings you do. I was on the Demo in Newport on Saturday, but not drawing – however I have been drawing for CND at various demos over the last couple of years. It is important to do reportage on all aspects of this
