Syrian family on-board HMS Bulwark

July 23, 2015

This family escaped IS by fleeing from their homes in Syria. They started a new life in Libya but after their sons best friend got shot in the street they decided it was time to flee again. They put their lives in the hands of the people smugglers and lost everything before getting into one of the overcrowded boats heading out into the Mediterranean one dark night with no idea whether they’d see land again. They were among the fortunate rescued by the crew of the HMS Bulwark. They were planning on going to Germany and stay with a relative so that their children could try and restart their educations – one was training to be a doctor, another to be a dentist.

I hope they make it.

    I agree
I have been wondering whether to illustrate this refugee crisis in support of people fleeing the violence. Your skills are very good though.

Thanks. If you get the chance to do some work on it then go for it. The more the better.

Why not pop across to the Assembly in Cardiff Bay to give a talk and show your drawings – these drawings that you do will speak to people. We need some action on this tragedy and your recording of your experiences could start something off.
